Goodbye Kauai
Well yesterday was our last day in the Garden Island. We started off by kayaking up some river that I can not possibly spell. It was a pleasant 2.5 mile row, along the way I saw some sort of historical fish pond, the rope that Indiana Jones swung onto a seaplane with and a lot of flowers. Sadly we had just missed mango season which makes me really sad. I do love a good mango. After the pleasant little row we had about a 3 mile round trip hike and polished off the excursion by being carted back up river and a small catamaran. I was all for wasting the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing, but since it was our last day in Kauai we decided to wander around and catch a few of the sights we had missed.
Spouting Horn has a much prettier name in Hawaiian, legend goes that some brave young Samoan dared to swim in the sea around the lair of some sort of horrible sea beasty. The angry oceanic terror chased the brave young Samoan intending to devour him. Luckily the brave and smart Samoan swam up a lava tube pursued by the sea monster, which then proceeded to get stuck. To this day it bellows in hunger and pain while occasionally spitting water up into the air. Another tourist tried to explain it scientifically to me, but I like the sea monster story better. Some times science just isn’t poetic enough.
