It’s time for a little gear grinding

By Russell

It has been a while since I’ve worked myself up into an apolectic fit of anger about something …. but I’ve been irked all week and I’ve stands all I could stands till I can’t stands no more.

With the 24 hour news cycle, right wingers, left wingers, and people who are generally outraged at every damn little thing I find it hart to get upset about anything I see in the paper or on TV. There are a few exceptions and I must admit I am guilty of occasionally flipping on Nancy Grace just to scream at her but in general I don’t care about a lot of things. And if I find something has really drawn my ire I get annoyed and usually just forget about it it.

My slice of the pie is so tiny

By Russell

My Slice of the Corporate Pie

So there has been a lot of news about CEO’s and the money they make. Some people are against it for various reasons; supply & demand, lost tax revenue, it just isn’t fair, etc.  Personally I think most CEO’s are vastly over payed and that bull shit about how they make the company is a bunch of crap.  Even more importantly I fee that the gap between the lower paid employees (i.e. the ones who do the toiling) and the higher paid executives (i.e. the ones who demand the toiling) is such that it will harm share holder value.  For the record I think the phrase share holder value is a crock of crap too.

But I realized that whining about my pay probably won’t do any good and it makes me come off a bit … well whiny.  So using the old adage a picture is worth a 1000 words I graphed out my pay vs. the CEO’s pay.  As you can see my slice of our combined pay pie comes out to roughly 0.004% which is interesting because while I know I don’t work more than him; I tend to regard my work as much more important.

Maybe I am whiny, maybe I am bitter; but that just seems a little excessive doesn’t it?

Up late, mediocraty, and the media

By Russell

You know what grinds mah gears, the media’s obsession with stupid shit.

Michael Phelps is all over the news. Evidently he smoked some dope, someone took a picture and this is what passes for news. The un-employment rate, the economy, hell even the stimulus bill are all more interesting than what Michael Phelps smoked but, the media in their infinite lowering of standards has decided to focus on 23 year old male who has acted “in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect”. Seriously? What the hell his wrong with this country? Who finds this crap news worthy for the entire damn country?

But I digress; either that or maybe I should gouge out my eyes and replace them with buttons.

At any rate, sleep beacons; and today always has the chance of being better than yesterday.
