Happy Days!

Well I survived what was a fairly hellish week. Actually that is a bit of an exaggeration, it was more of a purgatory-ish week but I don’t actually think that purgatory-ish is a word so I am going to stick with hellish. Luckily the week is over and I can slide comfortably into a hellish weekend. Actually this weekend promises to be pleasant, there I go exaggerating again, because I am getting cable. Oh and I am moving. There are two observations I have noticed about moving; we have a lot of crap and I am getting cable. Actually there are three things I have observed about moving, I hate packing and it really annoys Kimmy that I did not pack anything. I tried to point out that a 56 hour work week exempts me from packing but that flew like a lead balloon, which is a dumb way of saying it didn’t fly at all.

In addition to being Friday, today is the last Friday of July which makes it Sys Admin day, hug your Sys Admin and give him a bottle of scotch; he needs it.

So other than 3 phone crises (109 emails and counting), I also had time to see the Dark Knight. It delivered on everything it promised, it was dark, it was witty, it was insightful, and it left you a little uncomfortable.

Spoiler Alert I have to admit, I cried a little when the tumbler blew up, I then cried a bit more when Joker burned the pile of money, I grew excited when Gordon got the drop on Joker, and I was a little relieved when the convict tossed the detonator out the window (even though I knew Batman would save the day).
End of the Spoilage.

It was easily one of the best comic-book movies I have ever seen and it restored my faith in Hollywood. Of course, for some inane reason no matter how good the movie was there are still people out there who are unhappy with it. I figure there are people out there who just like to be bitter, I on the other hand am optimistically looking forward to Iron Man 2, the next Batman Movie, and Wolverine Origins.

[Edited] I put the fires out

8:00 AM : Damn its too early to be at work.

12:31 PM: So running 40 plus desktop upgrades and a phone system upgrade all at once is not fun. Best quote so far ~ what do you mean you don’t support the CAP software? You installed the damn shit a month ago?

12:44 PM: I hate people that leave their sound on, I hate them so much!

1:01 PM: Keyboards have to be the most disgusting things in the univers; have also developed an obsession with hand sanatizer.

1:02 PM: Have been sassed by the thing growing on the keyboard …

1:59 PM: Ahh lunch makes everything better; have now entered that happy phase where I am so tired from lack of sleep yet so awake from the coke, two mountain dews, and 3 shots of espresso. And in good news CAP is supported the world hasn’t stopped spinning and I probably won’t stay here till midnight.

3:16 PM: Yay! The desktop upgrades are finally done … and eww this desk has some sort of nasty/mysterious black stain.

3:41 PM: Holy Hell Batman, the phone system is finally working (sort of)!

5:47 PM: Yeah, that jubilation earlier about the phone system coming up and working …. LIES!  So now it is time for the roll-back.  Total actually Accomplished today over a span of 10 hours 33%.

Sucks to be an Aussie!

35% chance to hit the head; with odds like that how can I loose?

So evidently the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has deemed that Fallout 3 is not an appropriate game for Australia. Essentially what this means, it will be illegal to sell Fallout 3 in Australia; wow does it suck to be an Aussi. From what I gathered, if a game is inappropriate for a 15 year old then you can’t sell it. I don’t know about you but last time I checked anything is inappropriate for a 15 year old; they are stupid … give one a sharp stick and it would probably poke it’s eye out. I on the other hand can not wait till Fallout 3 comes out and am eagerly anticipating its arrival; although I will probably buy just the game and not the “Collector’s” version that Amazon is currently posting for sale. Every since Fallout 2 I have been awaiting a sequel, and 9 years is to damn long to wait for a sequel. There were plots and schemes to kidnap a few game designers but that seemed a bit drastic and a lot of effort. So only 90 more days till sweet sweet Fallout goodness; and no kidnapping required.

Multi-Cultural

Last night my legal counsel, my wife, and I all went out to Spider House for a few refreshing beverages. Ideally I was going to get a Black & White, but sadly that was no longer on the menu. Instead of having the perfect blend of espresso and vanilla ice cream I had to settle for a Mexican Coke and Italian Soda; how multi-cultural of me. I had forgotten how sweet Mexican Coke is and it makes me wonder why the U.S. of A. can’t use real sugar as opposed to that crap so commonly called High Fructose Corn Syrup. I swear that there must be a conspiracy to put that crap in everything, sure it is sweet but not as sweet as me or as sweet as a little something I like to call sugar. All ranting about the lack of sugar aside, it was nice to get out of the house and spend sometime outside pretending I am smarter than I actually am. As an added bonus Spider House draws university students like … uh …. well flies; so I get the added bonus of people watching, judging and mocking. The only down side of all this joy, Spider House refuses to have comfortable seating. I am sure there is some sort of relevant cultural expression/eclectic expression/or what not, but what it really boils down to is that my butt is uncomfortable and it seems that the older I get, the more of a premium I place on comfort. I am just un-cool like that.

Ohh I want one!

VW Concept Car I have to admit that when I saw this I really wanted one. Unfortunately it looks like the earliest release date is going to be 2012 and well since it looks like the end of time according to the Mayan’s (my bet is someone gets nuked because everyone is fed up with continually rising gas prices), I probably won’t get one. So oil is up again today (as of 1:59 CST) and is currently sitting at $145.03 which annoys me, by the time I go to fill up gas will probably top $4.00 here in Austin. Yeah it is a pain having to blow $80.00 every month on gas; I would love to telecommute but since I am tech support I pretty much in the office no matter what. Speaking of tech support who new a short holiday week could leave me so bitter. So in a bitter rage topped off with frothy annoyance I have decided to update my Rock vs. Co-worker’s challenge. At last glance we had left the rock with a stunning victory of 0 pts. vs. the co-workers with a stunning -4 pts. Unfortunately the co-workers have done a stellar job of annoying me this week so I have deemed it time to penalize them once again. First -1 pt. for waiting to the last minute; I keep trying to explain to people that waiting till the last minute on something really pisses me off don’t do it. But in a stunning reversal I had a manager not only request something two weeks in advance but actually followed up and reminded me; so I feel justified in throwing 2 pts. back. However, I love however’s, certain co-workers have been deemed un-trainable and worse alarmist … which makes more work for me, since there are two of them, and I have to block out two hours Monday to deal with it I feel fair in nailing them for -3pts!
